About the Artist - Dr Frank Hooke
Artist Self Portrait (2010)
Born in 1940, Frank is a veterinary surgeon who took up art following his
retirement from his last serious commitment in 2010 at age 70. Having tried
some painting briefly in his thirties, he staged his re-entry to art through
building drawing skills and used pencil, charcoal and pastel for the first two
years, then moving to acrylic and finally oils but currently using all these
media according to subject. Pastel is particularly suited to portraits as is
acrylic for blocking in for oils.
Frank paints for his own pleasure, rarely sells any work, has done a few
commissions and readily admits to being a mediocre artist. The purpose of this
site is to encourage older persons to “give it a go” and maybe younger ones too,
just for the enormous pleasure that is the reward of the immersion in the
process and the occasional pleasing surprise at the result.
Included are examples ranging from early through to more recent efforts.
